Working from home office design tips

These last few months, ‘home’ has taken on an entirely new meaning. For as long as we can remember, it’ has been a place for rest, health and well-being. But now, it’s an office too – a place to work or study.

Though this has helped to slow the spread of COVID-19, it has also shown just how feasible remote working can be. As a result of this, working from home could be the go-to setup for many businesses in the future and, in today’s article, we’re sharing our top three tips for adapting your home in a swift and cost-effective manner:

  1. Maximise space

Adding an office to your home will often require an increase in physical space – especially if you’re to work practically and comfortably. And, not to mention a lot more storage space! For many of us (particularly apartment-dwellers), it’s simply not possible to add more space, however, we can look at ways to make the most of what we’ve already got.

Consider converting the floor into a raised platform with storage below, creating a floor-to-ceiling built-in shelving unit or adding a hanging shelving unit to the ceiling.

  1. Create the illusion of more space

Even in the smallest of rooms in your home, you can increase the sense of space. Try using a mirror or reflective surface on the walls. When positioned perpendicular or parallel to a window, mirrored and reflective surfaces can boost natural light and bring the outdoors inside.

Adding a lick of white paint to the walls will also make your home office appear much larger than it actually is – providing a more spacious environment for you to work.

  1. Embrace flexible living

If you’ve no choice but to set up ‘office’ in the living room, you need to ensure that the space works both for you and those who you share your home with. You need a quiet space to concentrate, and they need somewhere to chill with their feet up in front of the TV.

There are a number of things you can do to achieve this level of flexibility. Take, acoustic movable walls, for instance. Installing a movable partition wall in your living room will create an acoustically-separated room within a room – ideal for everyone.

Here at AEG Partitions, we provide a range of top-quality movable wall systems, including movable walls, sliding walls and concertina walls. Each have their own unique acoustic rating and come in an assortment of materials and colourways, so you needn’t worry about the panels blending seamlessly with your interior décor.

The best thing about our movable walls is that they offer a temporary solution, rather than knocking down a wall or building a permanent structure. You can easily slide or fold the wall panels across – dividing the room into two parts, or opening the area up to create one large, functional space.

With a wealth of experience in the field, AEG Partitions can help you to create a home office that is practical yet stylish. And the best bit? We make sure that partitions are installed correctly.
